| Carole P. Meredith Carole Meredith is Professor Emerita in the Department of Viticulture and Enology at the University of California at Davis. After 22 years at the University, she retired in 2003 in order to work full time at her vineyard and winery and reclaim her sanity. She and her research group were among the first to use DNA to explore the origins of grape varieties and the genetic relationships among them. In addition to identifying the genetic origins of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay, they discovered the prominent role Pinot noir has played in the pedigrees of many French varieties. Most recently, they finally found the European home of Zinfandel in Croatia. Carole and her husband—winemaker Stephen Lagier—live on their mountain vineyard in the Mount Veeder district of Napa Valley and produce Lagier Meredith Syrah. Professor Emerita | Organisation Organised by Forum Œnologie and ISARA-Lyon, along with main sponsors Inter Rhône and the Revue des Œnologues, ISS will be held in the heart of Lyon's biotech hub. It will make use of the modern facilities at ISARA, an agricultural and food engineering school: videoconferencing, multiplexing and simultaneous translation, in order to present speakers from all over the world. This conference will also enjoy an international audience, thanks to publication of the proceedings by the journal Revue des Œnologues and on the Web site, www.syrah.symposium.tv |
