| Mark Battany University of California Cooperative Extension (UC Davis, USA) - Viticulture/Soils Farm Advisor - Specialties: Grapes and Soils - San Luis Obispo/Santa Barbara Co unties). Mark Battany have been working on Syrah Disorder/Decline on the California Central Coast since 2002. Some of the earliest work in this area included a survey of local Syrah plantings, to determine if there were any patterns with the appearance of the symptoms with different clones, rootstocks, ages of vineyards, and locations. Subsequently we have conducted several virus surveys, and have investigated the role that water stress, soil salinity, nutrient levels, and crop load have on the appearance of the Disorder and Decline symptoms. I have also visited many local vineyards to evaluate and document the different types of symptoms that we have in the area. This ongoing work has been shared with the local industry through frequent presentations to the winegrape industry throughout California. | Organisation Organised by Forum Œnologie and ISARA-Lyon, along with main sponsors Inter Rhône and the Revue des Œnologues, ISS will be held in the heart of Lyon's biotech hub. It will make use of the modern facilities at ISARA, an agricultural and food engineering school: videoconferencing, multiplexing and simultaneous translation, in order to present speakers from all over the world. This conference will also enjoy an international audience, thanks to publication of the proceedings by the journal Revue des Œnologues and on the Web site, www.syrah.symposium.tv |
